John Battaglino

Born in Brooklyn, New York, John grew up in the New York metropolitan area. He studied Chemistry and Natural Sciences at St. Peter’s, a Jesuit college in New Jersey, before graduate schools at Villanova University and the University of Virginia, where he received his Master of Education degree.

John taught at a variety of schools: Catholic, private, boarding and public, in the Philadelphia and Charlottesville, Virginia areas, until 1997, when he and his family moved to Vienna, Austria. This was the beginning of his international school career. He has taught IB Chemistry and Biology in Vienna, and other international schools in Tallinn (Estonia), Baku (Azerbaijan) and Hamburg and Cologne in Germany. At times he has taught English, creative writing, math and ancient history as well, in middle schools.

John is also a musician, an accomplished guitarist and singer, having performed in clubs, cafés, pubs and restaurants, as well as a few folk festivals. He also loves to cook, travel and enjoys cinema, theater and photography.

He arrived in January of last year to Kairos, and this year will be teaching chemistry and biology in the Lower and Upper AP programs.
