Joana Abreu
Music, Drama and After School Care
Joana was born in a family of amateur musicians. Every Sunday family lunch, after mass, was an excuse to take the guitar out of its case and sing traditional Alentejo songs as well as other classics. She holds a degree in Sociology and Journalism from NOVA University – FCSH in Lisbon, but her true passion has always been music and the performing arts. She studied musical theatre in Lisbon for two years, completing the Grade 7 exam from Trinity College London with Distinction. She also studied classical singing, piano, and music theory at the Cascais Conservatory and at Escola Nossa Senhora do Cabo in Lisbon.
For ten years, she was the lead vocalist of a pop-rock band called Tr3moços. Raised in the Catholic faith, sacred music—what she fondly calls “sacred pop”—has always been part of her repertoire. She directed the 7:15 pm choir at the Cascais Parish Church for ten years, a role she still occasionally steps back into whenever she can.
From 2017 to 2021, she worked at Colégio da Boa Nova as a music teacher for nursery and preschool children. In 2021, she decided to move to Paris to study jazz and modern music, while also teaching guitar and singing in parallel. She is set to complete her degree in Jazz in 2025 and return to Portugal eager to continue working with children and developing new projects. She is currently working on several personal music projects, including her debut album, which she hopes to share soon.
